In this video Wilson sing lullabies to the specimens in order to lull them to sleep. Her art explores the battle between our yearning for nature and our want to protect it and how these acts of kindness are twisted into something that actually hurts them.

Vermeer’s Playlist

Every month we have Art Waves on Cape Breton University’s Caper Radio. This radio show aims connect you with the staff here at the CBUAG as well as the artists featured in the gallery through the connection between music and art.

This music is specifically chosen by the week’s featured student and says something about how they work both outside and in the visual arts.
This week’s playlist is dedicated to Vermeer.  We can never know for sure what inspired an artist’s work, but we can try to understand what was going through their head by listening to the music that may have been influencing them.

Few painters are as enigmatic as Johannes Vermeer (1632–1675). His works command admiration for their meticulous observation and the sensitive rendering of light and colour. But beneath the perfection of form the artist’s meaning remains obscure, his figures eternally serene and passive, their thoughts a mystery. On this CD, the world of Vermeer is given a musical perspective with a carefully chosen selection of pieces by the finest composers of his time. Inside, Hugh Griffith provides explanatory notes on his life and musical environment.

This playlist is brought to you by Naxos: The World’s Leading Classical Music Group. Click here to purchase their CD.
