DIY Watercolours

DIY BannerEvery Saturday we feature a new and exciting DIY project that you can do at home, with things you probably already have, to make your house a little more efficient and a little more creative. This week has been all about community artwork and local talent! That is why this week’s DIY is how to make some really cool art supplies. Not all of us own paints or have the money to buy them. So, if you are itching to make something creative on the cheeper side this DIY is the thing for you!

This weeks DIY Project is how to make your own Watercolour Paints:

If you decide to make this DIY, be sure to send us a picture or comment below!

Call for Artists

ProletariART 2016

Deadline for entries – February 5, 2016 4:00 PM

proletariart2016callEach year, the Cape Breton University Art Gallery invites artists of all ages and levels of experience to participate in a non-juried community exhibition to celebrate community creativity. More than 135 artists participated in the exhibition last year. We look forward to see new work from returning artists’ and welcome new talent.

Drawing from the concept of the late seventeenth-century Paris Salon, ProletariArt adopts the presentation style of exhibiting artwork floor-to-ceiling. While the original Salon was largely conservative and exclusive to the members of the Academy of Fine Arts, ProletariArt is open to everyone and celebrates amateur, folk, experimental, and avant-garde art in addition to traditional art forms.

Handmade Holiday!

DIT Handmade Holiday 2015

Friday December 4th form 10AM – 4PM, the CBU Art Gallery will be hosting its annual artisan craft market, A Handmade Holiday!

There will be a variety of beautiful handmade items created by local artisans, crafters, and small businesses for sale as well as complimentary refreshments and live musical entertainment. Our very own Art Gallery Society will have their own table again this year where we will be selling all of the great crafts we’ve been making at our Thursday DIY’s.

Handmade Holiday is an event that not only helps you scratch off a few names from your shopping list and treat yourself with some great handmade gifts, but it also raises money for charity. There will be a raffle on a basket filled with goodies and a silent auction for wreaths that the CBU Community has decorated! There will also be a donation box available.

After the Handmade Holiday, starting at 6:30PM is the Art Gallery Society’s Coffee House and Open Mic. Don’t let the night end at the craft show, kick back with some coffee or tea and listen for more amazing live music and even some spoken word!

We hope to see you there!
